BoqCalc vs Kreo Software

Kreo turns drawings into quantities. BoqCalc turns a BOQ into a priced, risk-checked bid package. Different stage of the same job.

TL;DR

Kreo is a drawing-takeoff tool: an AI agent reads your PDFs/CAD files and produces measured quantities. BoqCalc starts one step later โ€” you bring an existing Bill of Quantities, and it prices every line against market rates in 40+ countries, runs AI risk analysis, and can generate a dynamic schedule and cash-flow projection. Kreo is priced per seat ($35โ€“175/user/month); BoqCalc is priced per calculation, with credits that never expire. Neither product fully replaces the other โ€” some teams reasonably use both.

What each tool actually does

Kreo's AI agent ("Caddie") reads construction drawings directly โ€” it detects walls, rooms, doors, and repeated elements across sheets, and turns those measurements into quantities you can price. That's a genuinely different problem than BoqCalc solves: BoqCalc assumes the quantities already exist in a structured BOQ document, and its job starts there โ€” pricing every line against real market rates, flagging what looks under-scoped or risky, and building the schedule and cash-flow view a bid package needs. If your bottleneck is measuring drawings, that's Kreo's job. If your bottleneck is turning an already-measured BOQ into a defensible, complete bid, that's BoqCalc's.

Pricing model

Kreo charges per seat, billed annually: $35/user/month for basic collaboration up to $175/user/month for the AI-powered tier. A 5-person estimating team on the AI tier pays $875/month whether they price two tenders or twenty that month. BoqCalc sells credit packs that never expire โ€” you pay when you actually run a calculation, so cost tracks usage instead of headcount. Neither model is objectively "better" โ€” a large team estimating constantly may prefer a flat per-seat cost; a smaller team with variable bid volume generally comes out ahead on pay-per-use.

Beyond the price: what's actually in the bid package

We didn't find AI risk analysis, critical-path scheduling, or cash-flow projection in Kreo's public feature list โ€” their scope centers on takeoff and measurement, with pricing as an output of that process. BoqCalc bundles all four (cost estimate, risk analysis, dynamic schedule, cash flow) into the same flow, generated from the same BOQ upload.

BoqCalc is the better fit if...

  • โ€” You already have a BOQ and need it priced, not measured
  • โ€” You want risk analysis, schedule, and cash flow from the same pass
  • โ€” Your bid volume varies month to month and per-seat pricing feels wasteful
  • โ€” You need market rates across multiple countries, not just your own

Kreo is the better fit if...

  • โ€” Your bottleneck is manually measuring drawings, not pricing
  • โ€” You want a steady, dedicated estimating team using one tool daily
  • โ€” 3D visualization and drawing-version comparison matter to your workflow
  • โ€” You value an established review-site track record (G2, Capterra)
